Minutes of  May 9, 2000 Meeting

Chairman Steve Mayes called the meeting to order at 9:35.  Minutes of the April meeting were reviewed and approved.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Checking Account Balance:                        $2,815.37

Savings Account Balance:                        $1,246.31

 

OLD BUSINESS

Washington State Patrol (WSP) Squak Repeater.  Pat Buller stated that the status has not changed since last month. (OPEN)

Interference from Nextel.   Wiz is meeting with Nextel today to discuss how to resolve problems with the sites in the Seattle area.  They seem to be making a considerable effort nationwide to address technical issues and make changes if causing interference.   (OPEN)

June 8, Joint Meeting With Canada.  Dennis Anderson has not yet been in contact with FCC Headquarters.  Steve and Dennis will get together outside the meeting to discuss topics that will be presented at the annual meeting. (CLOSED)

Letter of Determination from IRS.   Shirley reported that the IRS approved our request for exempt status and issued a Letter of Determination based on our Agreement to Amend the Constitution to include a dissolution clause.  The IRS provided the exact wording.  It was moved and seconded to include the clauses provided by the IRS in the Constitution.  (CLOSED)

Engineering Standard #6.  Additional recommended changes were presented and discussed. The revision to #6 was then approved.  Pat Buller will provide a copy to all members.  (CLOSED)

Suggested Amendments to Constitution and Bylaws.  Rich Tiedeman was not present to discuss his recommendations.  (OPEN)

Interference Complaint Form.   Deferred since Alan Robinson was not present. (OPEN)

 

NEW BUSINESS

Engineering Standards #1-5.  Steve Mayes proposed that these be reviewed also.  Shirley will provide copies at the July meeting  (OPEN)

ITEMS OF INFORMATION

WSP Items of Interest.  Pat Buller expounded on a topic he brought up last month regarding  Motorola radios purchased by WSP.  The observation is that digital specs do not present an interference problem whereas analog specs do.

NOAA.  George Bisso reported that there was a warning on 162.425 MHz of a tidal wave from Neah Bay to Astoria.

Hantavirus.  George Bisso passed out a paper on this virus.  One of the radio technicians in the Seattle area contacted the virus from mice droppings while performing an inspection.  It can be extremely serious or even fatal. 

FCC Items of Interest.  Mike Rothe reported on the following FCC issues.   Most FCC documents can be found on FCC's web site www.fcc.gov.  If you would like a hard copy, please contact Shirley Perry.

1)      FCC has been busy issuing fines and Notices of Violations on various types of services including slamming of long distance service, pirate broadcast, and improper licensing.

AT&T Wireless.  Chuck Zappala provided an update on AT&T activity.
