Minutes of March 10, 1998 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 9:40 by George Bisso, Chairman. The minutes of the February 10 meeting were reviewed and approved.

 FINANCIAL REPORT

Checking Account Balance: $3,752.44

Membership and Dues. Shirley reminded everyone to pay dues by May 1. She stated the by-laws are not clear about dues assessments. After reviewing the minutes back five years, she learned that four individuals had been granted lifetime free memberships. It was suggested that she go back further for minutes that address other entities such as representatives from government agencies.

OLD BUSINESS

800 MHz Cross Border Interference. Since Spencer Bahner has been replaced and Dennis Anderson is not present, a report of the current status was deferred. Members discussed the theories that testing has revealed and the alternatives available in resolving the problem.

WWCIC/WCTC Meeting. The 1998 meeting will be on June 17 at Hazelmere. Attendees should be prepared to make up an agenda at the next meeting in April. If you cannot attend the meeting and have a topic for discussion, please email or call Shirley. Once a list of topics has been prepared, we will submit it to our Canadian counterparts and ask them for their list. We do not want the 800 MHz problem or broadcast issues to be the focus of the meeting.

Gas Dryer Interference to Ham Radio. Pat Buller stated his neighbor's gas dryer is still causing interference to the AM broadcast and amateur bands. The owners paid a technician $60.00 to come out but he didn't find anything. Based on what the technician told them, the owners now feel they have fulfilled their responsibility and the problem must be with Mr. Buller's equipment. It was discussed that Washington PUD will not come out unless requested by the owner and PSE will not interfere with distribution of services. Pat sent a written complaint to the FCC Seattle Office; however, Dennis Anderson is not present to report on the action taken or current status. Kris McGowan will follow up with Dennis and may either write a letter to PSE or contact the dryer owner, depending on what Dennis has done.

Station Identification. Shirley read an email from Dennis addressing the station identification questions for digital emissions and trunked systems made up of frequencies in different services. The answer from FCC Headquarters indicates that station ID should be transmitted unscrambled. For trunked systems, ID's should be transmitted on all frequencies; otherwise, it may be impossible to tell who the licensee is when dealing with a complaint.

NEW BUSINESS

Next Meeting Chair. Steve Mayes will chair the April 14 meeting as George will be at the NAB Conference in Las Vegas.

Web Site. It was noted that something has gone awry with the web site. The "Jones Family Server" has invaded and taken over our site. We will have Alan look into this.

FCC Items of Interest

The meeting adjourned at 11:40

 Shirley Perry

Secretary-Treasurer
