OLD BUSINESS

Nextel IX to SMR. Denny Anderson reported on the current status. Attorneys at FCC headquarters are still in the process of drafting a letter to Nextel requesting their cooperation in resolving this issue. In the meantime, interference to co-channels has ceased although channels in close proximity are still receiving interference. Nextel is also causing interference to public safety communications in Washington County, Oregon. A Motorola consultant is working on that problem and once it is resolved, will reportedly work on the problem in Bellingham. Dennis Rainier commented that he read an article to the effect that Nextel is causing interference nationwide.

Telex Headsets. Denny Anderson stated that FCC headquarters denied Telex's application for an Experimental License in the Part 74 band. It was pointed out that around 200 headsets are already in operation.

Meeting with Canada. Wiz reported that the meeting Spencer Bahner was trying to organize between 800-900 MHz users from our area and users of the Canadian ECON system has not occurred yet. Spencer still wants to have the meeting.

Cross Border Frequency Coordination. Denny has been in contact with the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB) regarding frequency coordination from Industry Canada for areas near or north of Line A. The main gist of WTB's response was that if latitude/ longitude coordinates are above Line A, the application is automatically referred to Ottowa. WTB requested specific cases of problems that have been experienced in our area. If you have an example, email to Denny or send by fax to 425-820-0126. Feedback is also being requested from Industry Canada.

Pioneer Cab Adjacent Co-Channel IX. Upon investigation of Pioneer Cab's complaint of interference from Gray Top Taxi, Don Roberson, local FCC agent, learned that Gray Top is not authorized to transmit on that frequency and ordered them to shut down. Joe Young reported that they are back on again so it's back in FCC's hands.

NEW BUSINESS

National Weather Service. George Bisso commented that the National Weather Service is looking for a site to relocate their South Sound transmitter. It will require 24-hour emergency power for a 100-Watt transmitter. If you know of any possibilities, please let George know.

FCC Items of Interest. Dennis Anderson briefed on the following topics. Most FCC documents can be found on FCC's web site: http:/www.fcc.gov

Y2K. Dennis Rainier advised that FCC will not be responsible for non-receipt of renewal notices as a result of Y2K. Licensees are responsible to know when licenses need to be renewed and will not be granted a grace period.

The meeting adjourned at 11:05.
