Minutes of December 9, 1997 Meeting

A special thank-you to Mark Kaye, General Manager/Vice President of KLSY, for the wonderful catered breakfast buffet! It was absolutely top notch, first class and thoroughly enjoyed by all. After everyone went for seconds, the meeting was called to order at 9:50 a.m. by Chairman George Bisso. Shirley announced that minutes could be sent to members by email or fax, if desired. George shared with everyone an original broadcast license signed in 1925 by Herbert Hoover, then Secretary of Commerce. He will submit it to Radio World and the Broadcasting and Cable Magazine.

OLD BUSINESS

Navy Radar Interference. CPO Draper expressed his appreciation to the Committee for inviting the Navy to be involved in discussions. He advised that the California is testing yesterday and today and that Carl Vinson is getting ready to sail again. The Navy will let Dennis Anderson know in advance of dates, times, frequencies and equipment to be tested and Dennis will notify others, if necessary. It was emphasized that, should a problem arise, either the FCC Seattle Office or the FCC Watch Officer in Washington DC (202-632-6975) should be notified. There was further discussion about limiting signal direction and time frames for testing and identifying frequency bandwidths.

WWCIC Web Site. Thanks to Alan, the web page is looking good. Shirley will reimburse him $109.80 spent on the charges and provide him a roster of members.

WWCIC/WCTC Meeting. The 1998 meeting will be on June 17 at Hazelmere.

Loss of KLSY-FM Coverage. George briefed on the current status and passed around pictures of the Canadian site. The matter has been turned over to attorneys.

NEW BUSINESS

Garage Door Incident. Last week, a Navy onboard communication system was causing garage doors in the Everett area to open and close by themselves. The Navy frequency was very close to the garage door opener frequencies. The Navy was helpful and cooperative in resolving the problem without intervention from FCC.

Station Identification. The question of required station ID was discussed, in particular, concern over what form is considered a legal ID. Does it have to be an English voice, morse code, or can it be in the same form as the normal traffic (ie., digital, data, analog, etc.) Denny will research this and report at the next meeting.

Washington State Items of Interest. Pat Buller stated that laws have passed which require Washington State to lease tower space to commercial entities in an effort to raise revenue for the State Treasury. The City of Seattle is being pressured similarly.

FCC Items of Interest. Dennis Anderson reported the following:

The meeting adjourned at 11:15.
