OLD BUSINESS
WWCIC Web Site. Alan Robinson was not present to report; however, Chuck Zappala stated that Alan signed up for a permanent site which should be up and running this week. It looks great and has FCC and FAA links. Let Alan know if you have any suggestions for additional links or inputs for content.
800 MHz Cross Border Interference. This issue has still not been resolved. Committee members did not have any specific recommendations so, for now, it's an informational item. Nextel shut down their frequencies that were in conflect with Canadian users. Valley Comm expedited delivery on a new panel antenna with 45dB front to back ratio. It arrived Friday, is being tested in the Kingdome, and will be installed tomorrow. If this doesn't work, channel rearrangements may need to be explored. Comparison measurements at the Port Townsend site were also discussed. It was also emphasized, for the purposes of this committee, that engineering facts should be obtained and guidelines established as to what constitutes "harmful interference".
Meeting Facility. Shirley checked out two other conference rooms in the Renton Public Works complex. Neither appeared suitable for our needs. Spencer Bahner was certain that the King County Emergency Management conference room would be available for our November meeting and will let Shirley know for sure. George said we could use the KLSY conference room for the December and January meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
FCC Items of Interest. Dennis Anderson briefed on the following topics:
Antenna Registration. Requirements were discussed. Generally, antennas must be registered with FCC if higher than 200 feet above ground level, greater than 20 feet above a building or that may interfere with the flight path of a nearby airport. Registration must be done on FCC Form 854.
Navy Radar Interference. Wiz reported that Navy testing on 6 GHz caused interference to public safety microwave stations for a 2-3 day period on September 22-24. The source was allegedly from radar testing on the USS Carl Vinson in Puget Sound and Straits of Juan de'Fuca. Local law enforcement, fire, and emergency services were jeopardized until the Navy agreed to cease testing on 6Ghz. Satellite downlinks on 4-6 Ghz were affected as well. Committee members discussed how a reoccurrence of this problem could be avoided or minimized. King County needs to be included in the Navy's planning process.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00.
